However, Steven Bishop, the man who wants to control Kyrie, has a vast fortune, an army of Bound slaves with powers of their own, and no moral hesitation to use either. Dennis Hurlington, the leader of the religious cult determined to send all demons back to hell, will stop at nothing to see her die. The nagging question Kyrie can’t answer is which will get to her first.

Raised on D&D, and reinforced by her parents’ practicality, Kyrie’s other nature sees a clear path forward: the men hunting her must die. However, her friends are uncomfortable with the idea of outright murder, even after they become the target of gunfire in the normally safe city of Olathe. The fear for their families, each other, and a strong desire not to end up in prison, drive them to look for alternatives, but they have almost no time left to figure out what to do next.
